Friday Night's Music Night presents...

Roots n Shoots Presents...The Hut People

Friday 09 July

New to the calendar is Roots n Shoots a wonderful roots and folk music night. The intimate atmosphere at Peacock Lounge is the perfect place to get up close and personal with some of the very best on the froots scene; some who have been around for a while and those who are emerging talent. This is not just folk, this is an all encompassing night that will see musicians from roots, folk, americana, blues, world and acoustic backgrounds gracing the stage. To set the standard are the fabulous Hut People who are really causing a stir on the scene...

The Hut People are a hugely exciting accordion and percussion duo with bags of talent, charisma and showmanship.

The accordionist is Sam Pirt who plays with 422 and won the Radio 2 Folk awards a few years back. Sam is a very experienced musician who is well established in the folk world. He is found throughout the year playing at numerous festivals and workshops.

Percussionist Gary Hammond has for the past 12 years recorded and toured with The Beautiful South. He has also worked with Nina Simone and many other groups and set ups within the world music and jazz/pop world. He is in big demand for session work and his school workshops.

Together they play a wide range of accordion-based tunes which are given an exciting and unusual twist with the addition of multi-percussive styles & complex rhythms.

Both musicians have a shared love of Scandinavian, English and European folk tunes which infuses into their music and is inevitably shared by their audiences.
